42.195 km in 2 hours?
2017 was the year Nike tried to break the magical 2-hour time barrier for a full marathon on the Monza circuit in Italy. Eliud Kipchoge, a 32-year-old Kenyan, came really close but ended up running the 42.195 kilometers in a time of 2:00:25. 1st Giro d’Italia ever for Dutchman
The 2017 Giro d’Italia, using our MYLAPS ProChip, was the 100th edition of this special Grand Tour race. On the very last day, after a grueling three-week race Tom Dumoulin managed to the win and became the first Dutch male winner of the Giro.

Berlin hosted a record of 43,852 marathon runners
There were high hopes for the 2017 Berlin marathon, many believed to witness a new marathon world record. Unfortunately, the high expectations could not be met, but Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge put down a stellar performance and won the Berlin marathon with a time of 2:03:32. That’s the seventh fastest “legal” marathon ever! Kipchoge’s time and that of all the other runners was timed by Mika Timing using our ChampionChip. Gladys Cherono from Kenya won the women’s race in 2:20:23.

121st Boston Marathon
As the oldest annual marathon in the world, the Boston marathon remains an inspiration for those who run. The Boston marathon used MYLAPS BibTag’s and was timed by Mika Timing. On the men’s side, the 24-year-old Geoffrey Kirui from Kenya won the race in a time of 2:09:37. In the women’s division, Edna Kiplagat from Kenya won the marathon in 2:21:52.

First American to win the Chicago marathon in 15 years
The Chicago marathon, timed by Mika Timing using the MYLAPS BibTag, was the 40th edition of America’s second-largest marathon. Galen Rupp a three-time U.S. Olympian who ran a new personal record of 2:09:20 won the marathon on the men’s side. Meanwhile, Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 2:18:31.
